  13. No, you aren’t just being stupid; it is as bad as that.  Your diagnosis is 100%
  14. correct.

  16. We were informed of this problem at the MADA meeting in Boston.  I mentioned it
  17. on Compuserve but should have put a note here as well (certainly someone should
  18. have.)  This is a known “bug” in the compiler which is mentioned briefly and
  19. cryptically in the MPW Pascal manual.  The next version of the compiler will
  20. include a warning here, in addition to the current warning when passing a field
  21. as a VAR parameter.

  24. what compilers are for.  It seems like a perversion of the language
